Our 11-day / 10-night SharkWEEK and Big-5 Safari in South Africa package includes shark diving at the Aliwal Shoal and Protea Banks before heading to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Reserve for a Big-5 Safari.
The package includes all transfers, accommodation, scuba diving and dive permits for both locations.
Flight Requirements

When you arrive at Durban Airport you will be met and transferred to Umkomaas.

Holiday Itinerary
This itinerary is flexible and can be changed to suit your requirements and flights etc.
Day 1 : Arrive Durban Airport (anytime) - Transfer to and Overnight Umkomaas.
Day 2 : 2 x Shark Diving Aliwal Shoal - Overnight Umkomaas.
Day 3 : 2 x Shark Diving Aliwal Shoal - Overnight Umkomaas.
Day 4 : 2 x Shark Diving Protea Banks - Overnight Umkomaas.
Day 5 : 2 x Shark Diving Protea Banks - Overnight Umkomaas.
Day 6 : 1 x Shark Dive & 1 x baited shark dive Protea Banks - Overnight Umkomaas.
Day 7 : 1 x Shark Dive & 1 x baited shark dive Aliwal Shoal - Overnight Umkomaas.
Day 8 : Transfer to St. Lucia - Hippo and Croc River Cruise - Overnight St. Lucia.
Day 9 : Full Day Open Vehicle Safari - Overnight St. Lucia.
Day 10 : Full Day Open Vehicle Safari - Overnight St. Lucia.
Day 11 : Transfer to Durban Airport (flights after 2PM).
Extra diving is available should conditions allow and can be arranged when you are there.
Typical Day
After breakfast meet at the dive centre to kit-up and prepare for the days shark diving.
Each day you will have two dives on the reefs of the Aliwal Shoal or Protea Banks.
The diving starts with a surf launch from the beach or river, before heading out for the shark diving.
The conditions and current will determine where on the Aliwal Shoal or Protea Banks you will scuba dive.
The dives offer a great chance to see many species of shark including Ragged Tooth Sharks, Tiger Sharks, Bull Sharks, Hammerhead Sharks, Guitar Sharks, Whitetip Reef Sharks as well as Dolphin, Whales, Turtles, Mantas, Devil Rays, Eagle Rays, Moray Eels, Game Fish, Paperfish and much more!
After the shark diving, return to the dive centre where there are hot showers and a secure wet-room to store your gear.
Spend the afternoon relaxing around the pool, walking on the beach or visit a local attraction.
In the evening enjoy dinner at one of the local restaurants.
Typical Day on Safari
Depart your lodge just before sunrise and head to Hluhluwe iMfolozi Big 5 Reserve, South Africa’s oldest Big 5 Game Reserve.
Early morning offers you the opportunity to see the animals that are most active at dawn, such as Lion, leopards, cheetah, wild dogs, and hyenas. After sunrise breakfast is served in the reserve at one of the many look-out points.
After breakfast you continue exploring the reserve looking for all different kinds of wildlife including hippo, rhino, giraffe, elephants and more, enjoying the stunning landscape of the reserve at the same time.
A BBQ Lunch or a cold buffet is served in the park (depending on the weather), at a look-out point or hide.
After the safari you return to St Lucia, to relax and reflect on the day’s sightings.
About the Accommodation
Your accommodation is situated in the small diving town of Umkomaas and is just a 10-minute walk from the beach.
The dive centre is on-site at the lodge. All rooms have en-suite facilities and rooms are serviced daily.
The lodge offers free Wi-Fi internet access, Satellite TV and has an amazing swimming pool area.
Just wake-up, roll out of bed and go shark diving - awesome!
Safari Accommodation
Your accommodation is situated in the small town of St Lucia perfectly located for your Safari and Hippo / Croc cruise.
All rooms have en-suite facilities and rooms are serviced daily.

Shark Diving Aliwal Shoal
The Aliwal Shoal is rated as one of the top shark diving sites in the world is about 5-kms from the small diving town of Umkomaas.
The Aliwal Shoal is home to many species of shark including Tiger Sharks, Ragged Tooth Sharks, Blacktip Sharks, Bull Sharks, Hammerhead Sharks, Guitar Sharks, Whitetip Reef Sharks and more.
During your diving holiday, you will experience a mix of shark dives on the reef, wreck dives and baited shark dives.
The Aliwal Shoal also offers a huge variety of marine life including Dolphin, Turtles, Rays, Eels, Game Fish, Reef fish and more.
Shark Diving Protea Banks
The Protea Banks are rated as one of the top shark diving sites in the world.
The Protea Banks are home to many species of shark including Tiger Sharks, Bull Sharks, Hammerhead Sharks, Ragged Tooth Sharks, Blacktip Sharks, Dusky Sharks, Great Hammerhead Sharks, Whitetip Reef Sharks, Guitar Sharks and more.
During your diving holiday, you will experience a mix of shark dives and baited shark dives.
The Protea Banks is also offers huge variety of marine life.
